WOW Four weeks in a row of sunshine and warmer days for the races, and to top it off...no moose hanging around. We had 25 kids show up with 3 new ones, and race they did. Brad and Arron were there with their modified machines ( 8-10 year old class ) and the first heat we had to run again. It was a photo finish and we had no photo. Hunter's machine was repaired and he raced it in modified 5-6 year olds against Cameron and I gotta hand it to Cameron as he gave Hunter a good run. In one of the heats he overshot the corner and wound up jumping the corner berm. ( good thing the two corner guards past their reflexes test as they had no choice but to get out of the way ). I had to make a couple of adjustments to the race classes after the first heat of three laps and then split the 8 year olds into 2 groups as it crowded the track and in the first corner there were a couple of "side bumps". We had a collection of left over trophies and medallions and it worked out well with the 8 classes we had. Thank you to Troy and Brigette Craig as they surprised us and the kids with goodie bags for all the racers. Oh and thank you Ryan for your help at the tracks and for the ice cream bars during break time. Well, unfortunatly it was our last race of the season and we are looking forward to next year. In the meantime I would like to mention our kids fishing derby at Montana creek campgrounds. ( reservations are recommended ASAP as it usually fills the campgound due to the turnout ). This will be our 6th annual derby on the second weekend in August when the silvers and humpies run is at it's peak. our derby is limited to humpies only and kids under 16. The longest humpie wins and we will have prizes for each age class as well as other prizes for all the kids. If you would like to help with the derby by way of volunteer/sponsorship/donations please contact me. I'll send out reminders of the derby. OK on with the race results.....

Another beautiful day, 28 racers, (including 4 new ones), groomed track and finally no moose hanging around. We started the races late as I had to reevaluate the racers and their machine with their abilities as quite a few have improved. I also had to break three of the age groups in two classes to avoid a crowded track. We had the usual rear enders and tip overs. Hunter blew the motor in his modified machine so he rode another loaned by someone in the crowd. He crashed in the back corner and got tumbled over by the machine and it's a good thing he was wearing his racing gear as all he got was a sprained wrist. If it hadn't  been for his gear it could have been worse. ( chest protectors not required but strongly recommended ). The girls, don't underestimate the girls as there was quite some fierce competition with them and the boys. Ryder was having a good day at the races and I remember how much fun he was having as he kept weaving his head side to side in the straight aways. Blake was having an off day, it seemed as he had something else on his mind. Cameron missed the first heet but made the second and did well especially in the cross country course. Buckshot, Zaryn, Noah, Emalynn and Peter all had a great day of finishing first in all their races. Thank you Peter for riding another machine instead of your modified as there was no one that had the power to keep up with his. Hopefully next Sunday Aaron and Trisdan will be there. Speaking of Sunday, it was supposed to be our final race of the season but the Mat-Su Vintage racers canceled their 120 race making that day available so we WILL be racing. We have already given our season end trophies out but have a few left as well as the standard trophies and some medallions from two weeks ago so we'll see how to hand them out. I imagine Betty has been out shopping for supplies as we ran out of pretty much all the food and drink last Sunday. ( Bless her heart ). Oh I almost forgot, Thank you Dad for the nice plaques. On with the results.

Another beautiful day for the races, sunny and bright, 18 competitors. I guess I put my dad on the wrong corner as he couldn't take any pictures due to the glare. (One of these days our webmaster will finally contact me as to how to update our slideshow that has three year old pics on it). Anyhow we had the two moose still hanging around so we moved the track closer which worked out better as the old one needed grooming real bad. Dad borrowed a groomer from the Aurora dog mushers but our Bearcat that has ignition problems and wouldn't start (again). The good news was there were no moose around the cross country trail so we were able to run it, thanks to Troy Craig for bringing his Bearcat over and groomed the tire ruts out of the hillside and also, thanks to Howard for knocking the berm down with his plow. (As well for his help at the corner and the hills). The kids, yeah the kids, what a great group of kids. They have learned to sharpen thier skills in racing and sportsmanship as well. We had three rookies enter that have never raced before but I could sure tell they've ridden before. There was some fierce competetion in the 4 year old class between Blake (1,1,2) and Rhett ( 2,2,1) again as last sunday and Blake wound up with bragging rights by one point. Also in the class were Bryce and Ryder who by know means should be ignored on the track. Ryder has been working on his braking skills as I was beginning to wonder why he hadn't crashed into anyone,,,,,all day. Good for you Ryder. Braxton did really well in the 7 year old class as he kept the rubber side down in the speed ovals but he wasn't as fortunate in the cross county, he dumped it on the first lap at the corner behind the lions den and repeated the process in the second lap. He must have done some hard riding as he still managed to come in second, but yet won first place point wise. Buckshot and Willi Jo did their best to keep up with Hunter but they were outmachined (new word of the day). Emalyn had a great day of racing winning first place in all her races. Hayden and Brady had quite some competition with each other as well and Hayden would up winning first place by one point. The kids are getting quite a trophie collection and when my Dad went to get more, he came up with a great idea of getting something different for them,,,, Medals on ribbons. Next sunday is our final race, (Yeah all good things must come to an end), and we will have something to add to their collection. We are hoping everyone that has raced this past season to be there and of course Rookies are always welcome. Anyhow on with the results.

4 Year olds - 1st, Blake Bussell, 2nd, Rhett Peterson, 3rd, Bryce Maidl, 4th, Ryder Howard

7 year olds - 1st, Braxton Howard, 2nd, Wyatt Schmauch, 3rd, Olivia Starnes

8 Year olds, I had to split the group in two as 5 machines on the track was pusing it, 6 would be too many

First group - 1st place, Emalyn Peterson, 2nd Remmi Peterson, 3rd, Eli Koloski

Second group - 1st, Hayden Hoffman, 2nd, Brade Maidl, 3rd, Valery Jorgensen

What a beautiful day it turned out to be for the races, sunny, felt like 30 degrees and no wind. The only thing that went wrong was that there was a moose laying in the trees along the cross country trail so we canceled that event and instead ran the speed ovals again only in the oposite direction. We had a good turnout of 17 racers which surprised us as the Iditarod restart was going on in Willow. We had some fierce competition in the four year old class between Blake (1,2,2,1) and Rhett (2,1,1,2) and wound up tied for first place. We also had a three way tie for 2nd place in the 7 year old class based on points they all wound up with 12 in placement. I think in the future races I'll have to add them up before going inside and we  may have to have an extra race for bragging rights. Wyatt was sure having a rough day, he still has a little trouble keeping the rubber side down in the corners as well as Braxton. Then there was Emalyn, she stalled at the second corner twice in the same spot and then to top it off in the reverse direction races she did some creative parking on top of one of the snow berms. In the same corner. I would like to commend Peter for his sportsmanship of going 6 laps against his only competitors 5 laps based on his riding ability and he almost lapped her. Also kudos to Braxton for his hand shaking with his competitors. Elizabeth pulled quite a surprise in the final 5 lap heat finishing first, (I thought her Mom switched suits with someone elses kid) and I would like to add, I've never seen a kid cry over winning first place.

4 Year olds - Tied for 1st, Blake Bussell and Rhett Peterson, 2nd, Xavia Wilson, 3rd, Ryder (Crash) Howard

5-6 Year olds - 1st, Buckshot Koloski, 2nd, Jazlyn Wilson, 3rd, Elizabeth Walker, 4th, Wyatt Helm

7 Year olds - 1st, Zaryn Reich, tied for 2nd, Mikkala Malo, Willi Jo Koloski and Braxton Hoffman

8 year olds - 1st, Haydon Hoffman, 2nd, Troy Walker, 3rd, Emalyn (the creative parker) Peterson

9 Year olds - 1st place - Peter Reich, 2nd - Valerie Jorgensen

Our next race will be Sat. March 10 and hope to see all our racers there as we have something different for trophies, I wont say what, only that you'll have to be there to find out.

We had a good turnout Sunday of 19 racers, it was snowing pretty hard but let up just as the races were starting As usual we did have a few tip overs, Levi was having a heck of a time keeping the rubber side down, Ryder has improved quite a bit in racing as well as a few of the others that our new to our program and as the season progresses, we're going to see more. Wyatt has learned to ease up on the throttle just before the corners and then giving it more earning him 1st place in his age group. We've not only seen these kids improve on a competetive nature but I saw a lot of hand shaking, high fiving and smiles as they are all learning good sportsmanship as well. During the break they are doing what kids do, outside playing in the snow with their new friends.
